Before pulling anything the tech measures door thickness, backset and bore, because 1910s doors do not match modern prep and a 1960s builder bore may be oversized. Where the existing prep fits, the swap takes twenty to thirty minutes a door. Where it does not, the door is drilled or filled and you see the fit before the lock is mounted. Mortise locks are replaced with a modern mortise case behind the original trim where the trim is worth keeping. Keys are cut on site and matched to your other doors if you ask.
Installed prices run $99 to $275 per lock, hardware included. A Grade 3 residential deadbolt is the $99 end. Grade 2 deadbolts, lever sets, full handlesets with a matching deadbolt, and mortise replacements reach $275. The $89 service call is applied toward the total. Evening arrivals add $35 and overnight arrivals add $70, both named on the call. High-security cylinders and unusual door prep are quoted before, never after.
On the call, describe the door and send a photo of the lock face if you can. The figure is locked there. A text gives the tech's name, van and window. On site: measurement, removal of the old hardware, fitting, strike adjustment, key cutting, and a test of the closed door with the weatherstrip compressed. Payment by card or tap, receipt itemized per lock.

Can you replace a mortise lock on my 1912 Rockridge house without changing how the door looks?+
Usually. A modern mortise case fits into the original pocket, and the existing knobs, rosettes and plates go back on. If the trim itself is broken, restoration-style mortise sets come in period finishes. The tech shows you the options at the door before anything comes off.
What grade of deadbolt should go on a front door in the flats?+
Grade 2 at minimum, paired with a reinforced strike into the framing. A Grade 3 big-box lock is fine on a bedroom and weak on a street door. Grade 1 is worth it on a door that has been kicked before or on a ground-floor unit off a shared corridor.
I already bought a lock. Will you install it?+
